Laua`e fern

2.5"x3.5", transparent watercolor

I have to admit that painting is not as fun as it used to be, and I miss those days when I could actually see what I was working on. I've needed reading glasses since last year and getting used to them has been a challenge. Then again, I have to remind myself that I can still see and that is something to be very grateful for. So, despite the urge to toss my reading glasses into the toilet :O (!), I decided to paint tonight. It felt good. BTW, laua`e fern is often used in lei.

Oh how wonderful JoanyY to see you have returned to painting and sharing your wonderful ferns with us. Sorry about the poor eye sight, but sometimes its better to squint at one's subject to get a better impression anyway!!!
I use varifocus lenses so I can see my close up art surface clearly but still see the distant subject when I look up. They work a treat.

You did a beautiful job painting the ferns, Joan. I had to get glasses for reading/painting nearly 11 years ago and I hate being dependent on them but, at the same time, I'm appreciative that they are a huge help to me. I have the progressive lenses like Joan and I only wear them when I'm working at the computer, reading, drawing or painting...which is a lot, I guess. :)

Serena, I totally know what you mean! I think I might be legally blind without my contact/glasses! Thank God I can still paint! Hope all is well down under!

Alicia, Thanks for visiting and commenting! I am a huge fan so it means a lot! Aloha!

Hey Jo...

This is your lil bro here. Sorry to hear about your eyes. I know it is tough, but I've been in bifocals for 4 years now, and it has been a godsend. Quit putting it off, and go get your eyes checked. After all, being asian it is important to not squint...people might think we're asleep. LOL Love you!!

PS...I love the ferns. I'm still working on the portrait of Chelsie when we were out letterboxing at Lava Tree and she had the fern lei on. I will take a pic when I'm done...probably in another 2 or 3 years. Love you!

Hi Bruce! Thanks for your comment! <3 I have those really cool glasses that have 3 focal points ... and the doc makes me wear one contact that allows me to see far and one contact that allows me to see near. Takes some getting used to and I get kind of dizzy from time to time but it seems to help. Yeah, post your painting! I can't wait to see! That trip out to Lava Tree State Park was a lot of fun. Wish you could come home again soon. Love, Jo
