Using a pen definitely has its challenges, including capturing textures and I surely needed some practice so this is it. I had such a fun time with it that I may start another texture study tonight! (Click on the image to see it larger)
Wow, I really like this one! :) Great job! How is the "drawing people" thing going for you? I need to buy a new sketchbook-maybe go out later and get one! :)
Thanks Eileen ... It means a lot to me. I should have thought of drawing feathers and rocks like you ... but then I'd be intimidated after seeing yours. :)
No way ... Thanks! I had lots of fun with the cheerios.
Tina ... yeah, it's been fun. Makes me want to draw again. I've missed it.
Francie ... You are WAY too kind. :)
Al ... whatcha waiting for! Get one today so we can draw people together! Let me know when you get it!
Hi Joanny Y - such a great result with your pen and the texture studies are charming subjects. Wonderful use of tone with such great contrasts. If these are early studies in pen, the world's your oyster in this technique.

Just shoot me an email at joanyoshioka(at)gmail(dot)com! The oil paintings were painted with artist grade paints on cotton canvas with sides painted black so they don't have to be framed; they hang perfectly with a little nail (not pretentious at all!). Watercolors are on Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper using artist grade paints; the art cards are sent out in a sturdy plastic art card sleeve. If you'd like the original watercolor matted, please let me know. All prints are giclee meaning they are made with archival pigment dyes and are professionally mounted on acid free foam board with acid free mats in a clear cellophane envelop. Please note that the colors in the originals may differ from your screen.

Hey, that turned out great! Love the lace...and Cheerios. : ) Actually, lace can be a huge challenge, so kudos to you.
Thanks Kate. The lace took a bit of time but it was fun to draw.
I like your choices and the way they are all drawn on the paper, some interesting textures, a lovely exercise.
Joan-I love the line quality in this, especially around the Cheerios! Nice work-no easy feat with a pen!
Very nice! That looks like it was fun. Anxious to see whats next:)
You've nailed your textures, Joan. The quality of your strokes is annoyingly good. Beautiful layout, too. More! :-)
