I've attempted to grow my own green onions and two kinds of chives in these clay pots I found. Unfortunately, my thin-leaved chives aren't doing so well. In fact, if you must know, I tend to kill every plant I have so I don't give these plants much time ...

I will point out the irony that I'm a botanist.
