Ribbons of pahoehoe, Everyday Matters #119 - Rocks

Ribbons of pahoehoe lava rock and `ohi`a tree shadows make for an interesting Saturday morning subject. I just completed this near Kipuka Pua`ulu (Bird Park) at Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park. The original focus of the drawing was of two grass plants ... then I realized the shadows were much more interesting so changed the drawing midstream.

This is has a wonderful composition with the diagonals of the lava flow countered by the diagonal of the shadow. I could look at this a long time!

Joan, I am new to EDM and wanted to say how wonderful your drawing is! You are right, the shadows give the drawing a lot of character. Joyce
