Shell study

Been swamped so didn't get to draw yesterday except for a doodle but I did want to share this shell I did with colored pencil on drafting film a long time ago. It was actually my first. I loved the way the mylar took the waxiness of the colored pencil. I perhaps over-stretched the abilities of the film to take multiple layers of color but I like the results.

wow Joan this is gorgeous! Absolutely wonderful detail and it's so three-dimensional I feel I could pick it up. Can't believe you used coloured pencil on film, it hadn't even occurred to me that it was possible, I'm going to have to find some now!

Hi M, I contacted my now-retired illustrator/teacher from the Smithsonian and he said that the Cronaflex drafting film is not made anymore but is going to try to find some. I'll be happy to share it with you if he finds any. His webpage gallery is: http://homepage.mac.com/pxl_pwr/

I found a list of supply places for drafting film at the Guild of Nat. Sci. Illustrators website: http://www.gnsi.org/GNSI_Handbook/
HBapp1.html#translucent.

The main thing is that it has enough tooth to take the color. I can't wait to see your CP renderings on film! Cheers!
