Falling
Ever feel overwhelmed and needing to space out for a bit? Been feeling that way this week ... so I've been knitting my surprise instead of drawing ... and sitting with my thoughts. (I've gotten pretty far with the knitting thang ... I'll have to draw my progress soon).
Since I don't have anything super spectacular to post, here are some gestural studies I did awhile back that represent how I feel, especially the bottom one.
In an effort to regroup, I've decided to take a break and spend the weekend at

Life does overwhelm us and then it is time to just take a breather...

When life gets in the way, start knitting (that's what my daughter does too). Not every piece of art has to be perfect-just look at me :) I post failures also.
These gestures are just great, glad you showed them.
These are great, Joan! Didn't you once say that you don't/can't draw people? You can! Very well, too! I feel the emotion coming through in these.
These studies are truly impressive. I very often prefer studies to the finished product. They're just so much more interesting and sincere to me. Hope you had a good time in Waikiki.
Hey, great figure studies. I guess you did you did these from imagination (as opposed to tossing someone out of the window)? Sorry to here your feeling down but your drawings are great. Tomorrow will be a better day.
Ronell - yes, thanks. This weekend should be fun.
D - hehe. You know your stuff. I think this was from an old comic book.
Teri - Amen to knitting!
Kate - Thanks! I'm guessing learning anatomy from your drawings will help a great deal.
France - Yes, these are definitely more sincere ... less thinking ... just doing.
Ian - thanks for the encouragement. I didn't throw someone out the window but that's a good idea for next time! :)
why do these make me think of Spiderman? they're just wonderful drawings. my daughter loves spiderman and draws him still - and the perspectives etc are eerily similar to these.
and i wish i could be at waikiki beach ....
Wow Joan these are brilliant studies, love the poses and you've done such a great job. And yes, spiderman comes to mind!
These are amazing!
Did you sketch from a model or a reference or imagination?
Feel better soon and have a lovely time at the beach!
Amazing drawings - I'm intrigued as to what you used as a reference.
