Mindless plane sketches

These are two more drawings I made while on the plane.

Hey, I didn't tell you that I met THE Samantha Brown, goddess of the Travel Channel, at Starbucks on Tuesday! Don't get me wrong, I'm not the oogling, "omg, can I have your autograph and please, please take a picture with me" kind of gal. I may raise an eyebrow to celebrities and they might even elicit a nod from me at the very most (we get a lot of them in HI ... celebrities, not nods) but cutie pie Samantha is definitely worthy of an introduction. We chatted a bit and I found her to be as sweet and bubbly as on television. That was definitely a NY highlight.

Ok, back to the drawings. The one on the bottom was drawn with my trusty micron pen ... and the other with my 2B pencil and I think some 6B for the darker shading. Unfortunately, I used my watercolor paper, which is really rough so I couldn't manage the pencil as well as I like. But, it was still a fun challenge.

Oh...I cannot tourment myself by watching the Travel Channel since I have never in my life made enough spare change to actually go anywhere. Really.

However, your drawings are really great. I especially love the ink one. You do such nice nature scenes.

Wow! I would have guessed that you used the pen and pencils on the opposite drawings than you say!

i'm not familiar with the travel channel but i'm sure it was fun to meet someone you've seen on tv. and at the starbucks no less.
the drawings are both just lovely. i understand what you mean about the wc paper but the drawing is really wonderful (that horse- oh!) and the pen drawing - oh boy. just great too! that place looks so familiar to me.

Lovely work on that stone wall, Joan - I'm always too impatient with crumbling walls. The horse is beautiful too.

I love that wall and archway Joan, what wonderful detail, it's beautiful! And oh, I find it so frustrating to draw on watercolour/textured paper ... I like my pencils sharp and they just do not go together.

Great drawings! And it's so cool to hear that Samantha Brown if really "herself" in person -- she's one of my favorite TV personalities! I even have her on my iPod (you know, just in case I'm somewhere I really don't want to be, than I can just let Samantha take me somewhere else...)
:-D

I feel inclined to answer everyone tonight :) ...
Kathleen - But you will have to make a trip out to HI sometime!

Natalie - LOL, I guess it uploaded a bit differently that the original format. I changed the text to make it clearer. Thanks.

Tracy - I think the pic was from a Better Homes and Garden magazine. Perhaps that's why?

Robyn - Thanks! I had fun with the stone wall. It's amazing how they're put together.

Mariana - Yup, I know exactly how you feel about rough paper. I had to leave my sharpener out ... do you know how difficult it is to sharpen pencils on an airplane?

D - Have a safe flight to LV and Bryce Canyon (I'm envious)!

Linda - I know! Isn't Samantha wonderful? I love her. I would put her on my ipod if I had an ipod. :)

That bottom drawing is just wonderful and as usual I love the way you handled the vegitation. I'm curious - did you just make that scene up out of your head or is it something you saw? I ask because I myself have been thinking a lot about various types of building blocks - stones, bricks, cinder blocks - as subjects lately. Maybe there is something in the air....
