Friend and the aborted Magnolia

Ever notice that the most fun doodles are those you do while in good company? My good friend Jennifer was over this morning and I drew this while we chatted over some coffee before work. It's an aborted seedpod from a Magnolia. Magnolia is actually an ancient plant and in a botanical sense, relatively simple. Just like great friendships.

Hey D, my tree's blooms are long gone ... with only these pods remaining on the ground. Ah, the wonders of nature.

now isn't that funny - i've never noticed the pods yet i'm surrounded by neighbors magnolias. one beautiful reminder of where i live is these beauties. and to think they have them there too. never thought of that! LOL.... i really need to get my pencils out (i'm so lost in postcard land right now LOL)

Hi Tracy, I have a large tree in the corner of the front yard. I love its blooms in the spring. So ephemeral ... so beautiful. They aren't native to here but I am very fond of this tree because my grandfather gave it to my parents when they built the house.

The pods are nearly as lovely as the flowers -- this is beautifully done!
