Banyan trees are just fun trees to draw. This is one at Wailoa State Park. It's found at one end of the park, where I take Kanoe for a walk and watch people fishing for mullet or papio.
well you are rockin :-) and so is the tree. i've never seen a tree like that (well in person) - i can see why you would want to draw it. just fascinating to look at isnt it? so very different than the trees we have here! as always -amazing drawing - i really like the perspective you chose.
Thanks Tracy, Genine, Nicole, Kathleen, Diane, Mariana, Ronelle, and D! This tree was good practice. It forced me to anticipate intersecting lines since I usually draw freehand and rarely use pencil guides. D, got your mojo back?
Lovely tree Joan, beautifully and delicately drawn. I love Arthur Rackhams trees. Also think the goose is great. Have just found your message and will visit the Daily Art ,thanks for that.Eileen
Wow! What a gorgeous tree! And you've done an amazing job with it. The line work is excellent, the values are balanced beautifully, and I love all the negative space - especially as the eyes need a little rest after devouring all that fabulous detail.
This is such a beautiful drawing and the banyan is an amazing kind of tree. I've written a novel with the banyan as the central motif - called 'The Justice Tree' so when it's accepted maybe I could use your picture - with permission of course. wendy
Hi! I'm an outdoor-lovin' optimist, biologist/botanist, and habitual creator of art-stuff. I believe the key to our most fundamental and truest part of ourselves is found in nature and I constantly draw on it for inspiration.
"Keep your love of nature, for that is the true way to understand art more and more".

Just shoot me an email at joanyoshioka(at)gmail(dot)com! The oil paintings were painted with artist grade paints on cotton canvas with sides painted black so they don't have to be framed; they hang perfectly with a little nail (not pretentious at all!). Watercolors are on Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper using artist grade paints; the art cards are sent out in a sturdy plastic art card sleeve. If you'd like the original watercolor matted, please let me know. All prints are giclee meaning they are made with archival pigment dyes and are professionally mounted on acid free foam board with acid free mats in a clear cellophane envelop. Please note that the colors in the originals may differ from your screen.

Aren't they amazing trees? And your drawing is brilliant, you've captured all its complicated intricacies with a 'few' simple lines!
